Beginnings
P. Cahill & Company opened its doors on Pearse street, Ballina Co. Mayo near the old Moy hotel in 1977 and Padraic's very first employee from that year is still with the firm today.
P. Cahill & Company's first permanent premises was at Walsh Street in Ballina. The firm was a pioneer in the use of technology in accounting, introducing computerized accounts production in early 1980.

Padraic Cahill
Growth
After a period of consolidation the firm began to expand rapidly with the addition of Pauric Trautt to the staff.
Pauric's drive and initiative brought a new impetus to the firm and his already extensive client portfolio necessitated more staff hires and a larger premises. Shortly after making the move to Pound Street, P. Cahill & Company became Cahill Trautt & Co.
The new partnership continued to go from strength to strength. Peter Dooley was hired to help manage an increasingly large and varied client base, a staff that currently stands at seventeen including eight qualified accountants . The partnership registered as a student Training Firm with Chartered Accountants Ireland in 2020.

Once again the company found itself in a situation where it had outgrown its current premises.
Present Day
In 2009 Cahill Trautt & Co. made the short move from Pound Street to a new premises on the second floor of the newly rebuilt
Shaws building on Garden Street.
The new building is constructed to the highest commercial standards — featuring air conditioned offices, full wheelchair accessibility, 24 hour secure underground car-parking, 15 separate offices, a boardroom and a recreation area for staff.
From its humble beginnings, the firm has now established itself in a first rate premises that offers the kind of comfort, facilities and privacy that our staff and clients deserve.
On 31/12/2024 the practice Cahill Trautt & Co., was incorporated and now trades as Cahill and Trautt Accountants Limited.

Padraic
Cahill

Padraic Cahill is the Founder Partner of Cahill Trautt & Co. He has overall responsibility for the firm’s tax services.
Padraic has extensive experience in tax planning, auditing, and negotiations with Revenue Officials in every sector
of enterprise, public and private.
Having graduated from University College Dublin with a Commerce degree, Padraic began his career with the Smyth Motor
Group in Dublin. He spent many years working in industry and practice in Dublin and Cavan before joining J.J. Bourke
& Co. Chartered Accountants in Ballina.
Padraic founded the present firm in 1977 in Ballina where he and his family live.
Pauric
Trautt

Originally from Longford, Pauric Trautt joined the practice in 1998 and became a partner in 2003. Pauric has overall responsibility for the firm’s Audit and Advisory function focusing on quality and regulatory matters.
Pauric qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and completed his training with McDwyer Lennon & Co., a medium sized practice in Cavan town. Pauric then gained experience in industry, working with Cavan Crystal before finally moving to Ballina in 1998.
Pauric also has a broad practice experience with particular exposure to the Hotel and Service sectors, as well as the Creche and Nursing Home sectors. Pauric’s focus is to grow the practice while ensuring that all of its clients receive the highest standard of service. He is actively involved in local charities, including the Ballina Lions club.
Pauric has a keen interest in sport, is currently Chairman of Killala Soccer Club and is a strong supporter of developing the female game at youth level. Cahill and Trautt Accountants Limited are one of the joint sponsors of the recently launched Mayo FC. Pauric is also actively involved in local charities, including Ballina Lions Club.
Pauric and his family are currently living in Killala.
Peter
Dooley
B.Comm FCA
Originally from Laois, Peter trained with Lewis & Co. in Ballsbridge, qualifing in May 1999. He joined Cahill Trautt in August 2002.
Peter’s client portfolio includes sole traders, solicitors, private limited companies and charities. He has extensive experience in audit, taxation, business acquisition and corporate finance.
Peter is a keen hurler and in his spare time he trains the under-age Ballina teams. Cahill and Trautt Accountants Limited is the proud sponsor of the Ballina James Stephens hurling club.
Lisa
Lindsay
BBS ACA
Lisa trained with Gilroy Gannon Chartered Accountants, a medium sized practice in Sligo, qualifying as a Chartered accountant in 2011.
Lisa gained post qualification experience with Gilroy Gannon as Audit Senior and in 2014 moved back to Mayo where she gained industry experience as a Financial Accountant with Allergen Pharmaceuticals Ireland. She joined Cahill Trautt in March 2017.
Michael
Kenny
Michael Kenny
Michael Kenny graduated from IT Sligo with an honours degree in Business (Accounting). He qualified as an ACCA Chartered Certified Accountant and was admitted to membership in 2013. Michael joined Cahill Trautt in August 2017.
Michael is an audit senior and personal tax accountant with Cahill & Trautt Accountants Limited. He is involved with agricultural groups and in particular, he has acted as Chairperson of Sligo Macra. He provides senior audit support to the firm, and, as an active farmer, can also draw on his extensive practical experience in providing taxation support to our farm clients. Michael is a serving committee member of the ACCA Connacht members network.
Tracey
Keane
CPA
Originally from Tyrone, Tracey qualified as a CPA accountant in 2021 and is also a member of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management.
Tracey joined Cahill Trautt in February 2011 and her client portfolio includes sole traders and private limited companies across a broad range of sectors.
Tracey and her family live locally in Knockmore, Co. Mayo.
Shane Flynn
ACA
Shane trained with RBK, a medium sized practice in Athlone where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Shane also gained valuable post qualification experience at senior and assistant manager level with RBK.
Originally from Mayo, Shane joined Cahill Trautt in January 2024. During his career to date, he has developed experience in areas such as financial reporting, tax compliance and auditing. Having worked with a diverse range of clients from SMEs to large corporations, Shane has developed a strong understanding of the challenges facing businesses and he is committed to providing businesses with clear and practical advice.
Outside work Shane enjoys working on the family farm and travelling.
Craig Doherty
BBS ACA
Craig Doherty graduated with a Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) degree in 2018 and joined Cahill Trautt in 2020. Craig qualified as a Chartered Accountant with in 2024.
As a Senior Accountant, Craig primarily works with clients in the retail, construction, and sole trader sectors. He combines his technical accounting knowledge with practical business experience gained through his involvement in the family retail business. This allows him to offer tailored solutions that address the unique needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, helping them optimise financial performance and operations.
Outside of work, Craig enjoys playing golf and is actively involved in Ballina Golf Club.
Shane Hopkins
BBS, ACA
Shane trained with Deloitte LLP Dublin office, a multinational accounting firm qualifying as a Chartered accountant in April 2020. Shane gained significant post qualification experience with Deloitte where he managed a diverse portfolio of clients including listed entities, multinationals, and Indigenous Irish clients where he held the role as Audit Manager. Shane Moved back to Mayo in 2022 and gained experience as a Financial Accountant with Johnson & Johnson. In this role Shane was responsible for Consolidation, GL accounting and Statutory accounts preparation.
Shane is heavily involved with his local GAA club Castlebar Mitchel’s where is now a member of the senior men’s football management team. Shane joined Cahill Trautt in January 2023.

Of course not, even the smallest business can benefit from advice on ways to minimise tax and manage their accounts. Working with an accountant is an added cost to any business. However, the cost should be offset by the value they add. We work closely with our clients to achieve their goals. By getting to know you and your business well, we can tailor what we do specifically for your needs and your strategy, thereby adding value.
We aim to provide you with a fixed fee quote that will cover the areas we will work on together. This will be based on the complexity and volume of the tasks involved. Should any additional assignments come up during the year then we will provide a quote in advance, unless the matter is urgent and it is in your best interests to take action on your behalf. We offer you the chance to pay our fees monthly and avoid having a large invoice in one go, which helps your cashflow. One thing is for sure, if you telephone with a query you won’t get a bill. We want you to let us know how you are.
If you want to keep your own accounting records, then that is fine. If you need some help then we can give you some training. Ensuring that you understand the best way to prepare your accounting information makes it easier for us to complete your accounts or tax return. If we do this for you then you can concentrate on running your business.
Sometimes it helps to have a fresh pair of eyes look at your business. We will listen to you and firstly understand the history of the business and then how you want to develop it. We can carry out a “healthcheck” of the operating systems, management and financial reporting in place; advise on any matters arising and recommend any actions required. All designed to match up with your goals, which we established at the outset.
